The Same Wave
When Pambula Surf Life Saving Club started Special Nippers 23 years ago, the sole aim was to provide a fun beach session for children in our community who were excluded from regular Nippers due to their inability to pass the prerequisite swim.
From our initial session with five children and ten lifesavers the program has developed into so much more. Whilst our core business has remained the same over the years, the benefits of the program are now far greater.
The Same Wave Program provides a safe and fun physical outlet for those members of our community with disability. The social impact has been huge for participants, their families, the volunteers and general community.
Community volunteers have ensured that this wonderful program is the success it is. Not only is confidence and skill development apparent in the participants, but in the volunteers themselves. Close bonds are readily formed. The demand for the program has seen Moruya and Bermagui start their own programs.
